The following core assumptions underpin the Gimel ID proposition:
The Gimel ID introduction by the Gimel Foundation sets out the rationale behind the launch of the Gimel ID project and provides an overview of its status and future direction.
Gimel ID
The Gimel ID is a privacy-preserving proof of personhood. The system allows users to verify their identity online using a custom biometric device, the Gimel Device. The Gimel Device has been designed based on the understanding that bespoke biometric data may be the most sustainable long-term solution for AI-safe person verification. Gimel IDs are issued on the Gimel protocol, which enables individuals to prove their identity as a human to any verifier (also web2 applications) while maintaining their privacy through zero-knowledge proofs. It is anticipated that the protocol will be capable of issuing other types of credentials in the future.

The Gimel ID system is designed to ensure that each ID is used exclusively by the individual to whom it was issued. It should be extremely challenging for a third party to misuse the Gimel ID credentials they have obtained illegally.
Gimel Token
The issuance of tokens (in terms of the Gimel Token) to all network participants is designed to align their incentives around the growth of the network, as this will ultimately drive the emergence of useful applications built on top of the financial and identity infrastructure. This is particularly crucial at the outset to facilitate the network's initial growth.
In the context of DNA diagnostics, the issuance of tokens can help to reduce the cost for patients, care providers and payers. In the ideal case, it can help to even offer DNA diagnostics for free. In this respect, the Gimel Token can foster health equity by helping to provide DNA diagnostics to everyone.
Gimel App
GimelApp is the inaugural frontend to Gimel ID. It provides users with step-by-step guidance through the verification process with the Gimel Device, securely stores their Gimel ID credentials, and implements cryptographic protocols to share those credentials with third parties in a privacy-preserving manner. Its purpose is to provide seamless access to global decentralized financial infrastructure. It is anticipated that there will be a significant number of wallets that will integrate Gimel ID in due course
